The Ride

Disclaimer: Dead? Not yet!

Riding – It’s not about the motorcycle you ride or the gear you wear or the chicks who stare at you. Anyone who has few bucks can buy a motorcycle, ride for few days, look cool with it and then park it in a garage for the rest of its life. But it’s not what you ride that you ride. It’s not how fast you go, it’s about enjoying the ride. It’s not when you started riding but continue to ride each day. Riding! It’s a way of life.

I am not a biker. People generally get confused between bikers and riders. Bikers are the ones who know anything and everything about Bikes or Motorcycles. They live and breathe motorcycles. I am a rider. We are a lazy bunch of people, who don’t wanna move their ass. We don’t know much about the mechanics of the motorcycle, we don’t have to. We are meant to ride and not to fix the ride. We hate to see our motorcycles parked and love it when we feel her between our legs. We are Riders.

From my early childhood days, I was attracted towards anything with wheels (maybe, that explains why I like curvy women). It started with buses, went to cars and then to motorcycles; and I was damned. My dad had a motorcycle and he didn’t want me to touch it until I was 18. But one day when my parents had gone out, the motorcycle smiled at me; I stole it and started riding. And I have been riding ever since. When I got my first job, the only thing on my mind was to get my dream motorcycle. I worked my ass off to buy my Royal Enfield, Bullet. It took me 3 years but finally I earned it. When I rode her for the first time, I felt her in my bones. The thump, it felt like GOD. And man, I have fallen in love with her; not “it”; she has a persona, character, and feelings; she is not perfect but she has never ditched me. I care for her more than I would ever care for my girlfriend. At times, I talk to her too (Hang on, I am not losing it) She is my baby, my sweetheart (okay, now I am out of my mind). She always gets what she wants without compromising on quality. Never ever ask me for a test ride and don’t touch my motorcycle. For you, it’s just another motorcycle but not for me. If you get a chance to ride her that means I trust you with my life.

I have made tons of memories with her in the past few years which I would take to my grave and beyond. If ever comes a day that I go bankrupt, she would still be there in my garage to the best of her condition. She is going to be there beside me forever. Even if someone offers me all the fortune of this world, she can never be replaced. It’s difficult for me to explain and it’s hard for you to understand the relationship which I have with her; it’s kinda complicated.

Why I ride? Because a twist of my wrist can take me to any part of this world. I feel alive to my core, it kick starts my heart. It brings me peace; it does the same what meditation does to yogis. I enjoy that sense of freedom, the wind in my face, the thump of the silencer; and its fun. At the end of the day, if you are not having fun then what the heck are you doing! And life is all about enjoying doing what you are doing. I was born to ride. I can’t imagine a day well spent without riding. And I would ride anywhere, anytime, where my motorcycle takes me. Yeah, she takes me places; it’s not the other way round. I know, it may not make sense to you.

Anyway, yesterday, I completed my dream ride of 38 days, covering 14 states, putting 12,000 kilometers under my belt. I also rode the highest motorable road on earth during my ride and I should say, I have fallen in love with my country. It’s beautiful and I believe there is no other country as beautiful as India. If my words are not good enough to convince you, check it out and find for yourself click here. I hope you like the snaps. And I would also be sharing my experience in the subsequent posts. So stay tuned and ride safe, there is so much to see in life that one should not waste it by making silly mistakes.

I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you
